I came home today to find
My dear mum.
She seemed kinda strange
She looked kinda glum.
My instinct just told me
She was hiding big news.
I asked her to tell me
Why she had the blues.
‘You’ve grown up, young man!’
She smiled first of all.
‘Two cases of luggage
Are there in the hall.
I know that for Europe –
Your heart really sings!
We must say goodbye now,
I can’t clip your wings.
You’ve got a future there,
Hopefully bright.
But I will just stay here
And pray that you write.’
I hugged her so tightly
And gave her a kiss.
‘I know, dearest mother.
Now listen to this.
You can’t put in cases
What I’ll take in my heart.
I’ll never stop loving you
When we’re apart.
Yes, Europe, dear mother,
Is a big chance for me.
But I’ll make you so very proud.
Just wait and see!’
